Here are a few tips and tricks from your friendly tree experts on how to best care for your trees in Winter.

Winter Storm Damage – Preventing and Restoring

Trees that are overgrown, have poor structure, included bark, or that have been previously damaged in storms are highly susceptible to storm damage. It is sometimes difficult to assess the health of your tree so if there are any trees in your vicinity which have large lean, large overhang, included bark or dual leaders call us, your passionate local arborists for an expert free tree assessment and put your mind at ease that your trees are safe in the next stormy conditions. We are here to offer support.

Tree Pruning

The best time for Winter pruning is July through to August, and should be done before the buds begin to swell too much. Deciduous trees are perfect to prune in Winter as their scarce leaf cover makes it easier to perform corrective pruning and create ideal canopy structure. Winter pruning is also less likely to interrupt tree growth cycles, producing smaller amounts of wound wood, mitigate wound infection and reduce stress such as drought, pests and disease.

Tree Removals

When the ground is sparkling from old Jack Frost we know there is less impact from tree work on surrounding lawns and gardens, making Winter a great time for tree removal. Trees adversely affected by deadwood, disease, and infection are best to be removed to mitigate hazards during adverse storm conditions. We are respectful of you, your trees and your space.

Tree Transplants

Trees are in their lowest growth phase in Winter, their sap is flowing most slowly than any other time in the year and it is this time when trees are most dormant. The best opportunity for tree transplants are when trees are in this sleepy state and we can nurse them to a new home. The Tree People have over 10 years technical expertise in tree transplanting, we are super passionate about going above and beyond for your trees.
